Hi, I'm Valerie and I have the privilege to serve as Manager of Nursing Recruitment at Corewell Health, focusing on hiring top talent for direct patient care support roles. I’m passionate about building strong care teams, improving processes to enhance the candidate experience, and driving efficiencies in hiring practices. I’m grateful to play a role in impacting patient care in our community and hold our team members in the highest esteem. I enjoy collaborating with leaders to meet workforce needs while supporting exceptional care delivery.

Can you share a moment when you felt proud of the work you do?
I felt especially proud working here side-by-side with our care teams and seeing the difference they made for patients and families. That experience shaped my passion for recruitment and allowed me to transition into helping bring the right people into those same teams. It’s been incredibly rewarding to continue supporting patient care in our community in this way.

What originally drew you to Corewell Health and how has that evolved?

I joined Corewell Health 17 years ago to support patient care while providing stability for my family, drawn to its strong benefits and opportunities for growth. It quickly became much more than just a job—working alongside our care teams inspired my transition into recruitment, and with the support of incredible leaders, my career grew in ways I never expected. Today, I’m grateful to bring the right talent to those teams and contribute to the care our community relies on. I’m proud to be part of a team that values collaboration, compassion, and doing what’s right for both our people and the patients we serve.

One thing you always keep at your desk? 
A rotating lineup of beverages, usually more than one at a time because staying hydrated and energized is rarely a one-drink strategy.
